Light to moderate rain likely in 24 hours

DHAKA, Aug 26, 2018 (BSS)-Light to moderate rain or thundershowers
accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind and lightning flashes are
likely to occur at some places across the country in 24 hours ending 9 am
tomorrow.

“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty
wind and lightning flashes are likely to occur at a few places over Rangpur,
Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet
divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country in
24 hours commencing 9 am today,” said a Met bulletin issued this morning.

Day and night temperature may rise slightly over the country.

“A low has formed over Northwest Bay and adjoining area… The axis of
monsoon trough runs through Punjab, Hariyana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gangetic
West Bengal, the centre of the low and thence northeastwards to Assam across
central part of Bangladesh,” the bulletin said, adding that monsoon is fairly
active over Bangladesh and moderate to strong over North Bay.

The maximum temperature was recorded 35.2 degrees Celsius yesterday at
Jashore in Khulna division while today’s minimum temperature 25.0 degrees
Celsius at M.Court, Feni and Sylhet.

The highest rainfall in the last 24 hours as of 6 am today was recorded 92
mm at Netrokona in Mymensingh division.

The sun sets at 6:48 pm today and rises at 5:23 am tomorrow in the
capital.

Meanwhile, a Met office warning message said, rain or thundershowers
accompanied by temporary South or South-Eesterly gusty or squally wind speed
45-60 kph is likely to occur in the regions of Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali,
Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Madaripur.

River ports are advised to hoist cautionary signal number one.
