Attack on Thakurtari village part of conspiracy: Home Minister

RANGPUR, Nov 14, 2017 (BSS) – Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, MP, today said the Friday’s attack on Thakurtari village in Rangpur was a part of continuous conspiracy hatched by the defeated anti-liberation forces.

“The attack on Thakurtari village was not a new incident as similar attacks were carried out and religious institutions burnt at Ramu, Brahamanbaria and other places in the country in the recent times,” he said.

“In every incident, including Holey Artisan, we identified conspirators and brought them to the book,” Khan said, adding that every criminal involved in conducting attacks in Thakurtari village would not be spared.

The minister said this while addressing a rally titled ‘Harmony Assembly’ organised by the district police at Harkoli Multilateral Fazil (Degree) Madrasha ground located adjacent to clash-hit Thakurtari village under Sadar upazila here as the chief guest.

Earlier, the minister visited Thakurtari village. During the visit, he talked to clash-hit people and told them that all people of the country irrespective of caste, creed and religion were with them. The minister said the Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians and other communities are living peacefully and working together to build a developed ‘Sonar Bangla’ under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Police filed a case in connection with the clash that left one person dead and started investigation to find out the real criminals as well as bring them to the book,” he said.

“The derogatory posting on the Facebook is highly condemnable,” he said, adding that Rangpur police arrested Titu Chandra Roy today from Jaldhaka upazila in Nilphamari for his alleged involvement with the derogatory posting on Facebook.

“If Titu is found guilty through investigation, he will get maximum punishment as per the law- and, if he is found innocent and conspiracy detected, the conspirators will be identified to bring them to the book,” he said.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Dr Biren Sikder, MP, Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Ministry Tipu Munshi, MP, among others, addressed the event.

Dr Biren Sikder, MP, in his speech, urged clash-affected people to keep faith on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and law enforcement agencies.

AKM Shahidul Hoque called upon the common people to remain alert as the defeated anti-liberation forces might hatch more conspiracies to create anarchy and destabilise the law and order situation.

Tipu Munshi said the anti-liberation forces are conducting attacks to hinder the development process and divide the nation.

Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed, Deputy Inspector General of Police for Rangpur Range Khondker Golam Faruk, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wahiduzzaman, Acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, its General Secretary Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju, Sadar Upazila Chairman Nasima Zaman Boby, city AL General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mandal and community policing activist Shushanta Bhowmick, attended the assembly presided over by Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman.

Thousands of people irrespective of caste creed and religion, religious leaders, public representatives, leaders and activists of Awami League (AL), its associate bodies, professionals, civil society members, teachers and students participated in the rally.
