DHAKA, Nov 14, 2017 (BSS) – The prosecution, in the hearing on arguments for the 10th consecutive day, today told the court that the grenades used in the August 21, 2004 attacks on an Awami League (AL) rally, were supplied from the house of BNP leader and then deputy Minister Abdus Salam Pintu.
Chief prosecutor in the case Advocate Syed Rezaur Rahman, in his submission, informed the court of the matter quoting the confessional statement made by Harkatul Jihad leader Maulana Mainuddin alias Mufti Uddin alias Khwaja alias Abu Zandal alias Masum Billah.
Top Harkatul Jihad leader Mufti Abdul Hannan collected 15 grenades and Taka 20,000 from Maulana Tajuddin, brother of BNP leader Abdus Salam Pintu, the prosecutor said, adding that the militants later took the final preparation for carrying out the August 21 grenade attacks from militant Ahsanullah Kazol’s Merul Badda residence in the capital city.
After hearing the arguments, Judge Shaheed Nur Uddin of Speedy Trial Tribunal-1, set up on the ground of Alia Madrasha in the old city’s Nazim Uddin Road, adjourned the hearing till tomorrow (November 15).
The prosecution side has already held arguments on confessional statements made by Mufti Abdul Hannan and Maulana Mainuddin. A total of the 12 confessional statements under section 164 were made in connection with the August 21 grenade attacks.
The deadly grenade attacks on a rally of the AL at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital city was carried out on August 21 in 2004, in which 24 people, including Ivy Rahman, wife of late president Zillur Rahman and then Mohila AL president, were killed and over 500 others injured.
Two separate cases were lodged to this end.
