BADC starts to sale Boro paddy seeds in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Nov 14, 2017 (BSS) -Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) started to Sale of foundation seed of different varieties of Boro paddy to the farmers at fair prices from last month through its sale centers.

BADC has allocated 796 tonnes of different quality Boro seeds primarily to sell to the farmers through its three sale centres at Gaibandha town, Palashbari and Gobindaganj upazilas headquarters during the current Robi season, the sources said.

Till November 13, as many as 650 tonnes of quality seed of Boro paddy had already been sold through the centres, said an official of BADC here.

A sack of seed of BRRI Dhan-28, BRRI Dhan-29 and BRRI Dhan 58 weighing 10 kgs is being sold from the centres at TK 500, BRRI Dhan- 500 at TK 600 respectively and hybrid SL-8H at TK 2300.

A packet of seed of the varieties except SL-8H weighing 2 kgs is also being sold to the farmers at TK 100 for the first time considering the interest of the farmers.

A number of farmers are seen to purchase the seed from the sale centers of the BADC with much confidence to sow the seed on the prepared land to get desired output.

Senior assistant director of BADC here M. Mazharul Islam said the seed of the varieties is also being sold to the farmers through the 132 selected dealers of BADC in seven upazilas of the district at fixed prices.

In reply to a question Mazharul Islam said the sale of high quality seed of wheat, mustard and winter vegetables is also continuing to the farmers at fair prices side by side with Boro seed.

Talking to the BSS, deputy director of Department of Agriculture Extension AKM Ruhul Amin said necessary initiative had been taken to prepare seed bed on over 7,500 hectares of land in the district to produce seedlings of Boro paddy during the current season.
