Govt to construct 2,971 houses for landless freedom fighters, minister tells JS

SANGSAD BHABAN, Nov 13, 2017 (BSS) – The government has set a target
to construct a total of 2,971 households for rehabilitating landless and
insolvent freedom fighters, the valiant sons of the soil.

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque today said this while
replying to a query made by treasury bench lawmaker Dilara Begum of
women reserve seat 20 at the house here.

The government is implementing the household project at each upazilas of 64
districts across the country under “Construction of Households for Landless
and Insolvent Freedom Fighters” project with an outlay of Taka 271.12 crore.

Under the project, the government will build a 500 square-feet pucca house
with facilities of water supply and sanitation, said the minister, adding that
“so far 2,652 houses have already been distributed among the freedom fighters
as per the recommendation by the scrutiny committee at the district and
upazila level.”

The construction of the rest of the houses would be completed by June 2018,
the minister told the house.

In addition to this, Haque said the government has taken a project for
construction of four-storey multi-storied building under the Liberation War
Affairs Ministry for providing housing facilities for the distressed and
insolvent freedom fighters.

About 8,000 freedom fighters across the country would be benefited under the
project.

Even a total of 84 flats and 74 shops were constructed at Muktijoddah tower –
1for the injured and martyred freedom fighters families. Of them, 33 flats and
33 shops have already been distributed among injured and martyred freedom
fighters families, he added.
