BUILD for adopting policy measures to promote environmental sustainability

DHAKA, Aug 20, 2018 (BSS) – Business Initiative Leading Development (BUILD)
urged the government to adopt policy measures for promoting environmental
sustainability in the plastic sector which working for pollution reduction,
recycling and reuse of plastic.

BUILD made the call on Sunday at the Sustainability and Green Growth
Working Committee (SGGWC) meeting at the Environment, Forest and Climate
Change Ministry in the city, said a press release here today.

The meeting was co-chaired by Environment, Forest and Climate Change
Secretary Abdullah Al Mohsin Chowdhury and the Bangladesh Garment
Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Director M Munir Hossain.

BUILD Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ferdaus Ara Begum presented two policy
papers on implementation status of Green Transformation Fund and Green
Financing and Environmental Sustainability in the Plastic Sector.

Ferdaus Ara Begum said BUILD in association with Environment, Forest and
Climate Change Ministry and BGMEA has launched this platform to exchange
views among all intending sectors of the economy about the environment and
related policies.

Research-backed reforms for bridging the implementation gaps and conduct
dialogues with the concerned government organisation to support the private
sectors in having safe investment and sustainable business by using announced
policies of the government, she suggested.

Through this platform, BUILD will be creating awareness among private
sector about climate change, environmental damage, disaster risk reduction
for developing compliant and resource efficient entrepreneurship, Ferdaus Ara
said.
