Vermi compost farm launched in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Nov 13, 2017 (BSS)- A private sector vermin composting (bio-fertilizer) farm has been launched in Debipur Jhopduar village of the district on Sunday aims at boosting organic fertilizer production.

Integrated Farm Management Club (IFMC),an ngo, launched the farm.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Dr Bimal Kumar Pramanik opened the farm as the chief guest with IFMC President Abdur Razzaque in the chair. Among others concerned,Durgapur Upazila Agriculture Extension Officer Mintu Mian and Sub Assistant Agriculture Officers Mukhlesur Rahman and Jahedur Rahman were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Bimal Kumar Pramanik said vermin compost fertiliser, one kind of organic fertiliser made from earthworm, has started becoming popular in the area.

Vermicompost fertiliser is being used to regain the fertility of land lost due to excessive use of chemical fertiliser. Some farmers, who took training, have started manufacturing organic quality fertiliser.

He said that this kind of fertiliser enhances the crop production. The fertiliser is very nutritious for crops. It contains cocoon that helps grow more earthworm in agricultural field helping the crop grow more,Pramanik said.

The response from the farmers is very positive in this regard, Dr Pramanik added.
