Four Jamaat men held in Nilphamari
RANGPUR, Aug 17, 2018 (BDSS) – Four local leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh were arrested tonight from a secret meeting at village Chhoto Khata under Dimla upazila in Nilphamari while they were planning to conduct subversive activities.
“On a tip off, a police team raided the village and arrested the Jamaat leaders from the secret meeting at the house of Dimla upazila Ameer of Jamaat Mahiur Rahman,” Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dimla Thana Mofiz Uddin Sheikh said.
Police also seized huge quantity of ‘jihadi’ books and anti-government leaflets from their possessions during the raid when some other Jamaat men managed to escape from the scene.
The arrested persons are Dimla Upazila Jamaat Ameer Mahiur Rahman, 48, its ‘Rokon’ Mujibur Rahman, 42, Balapara union Jamaat President Joynul Abedin, 65, and President of Purbo Chhatanai union Jamaat Shamsul Haque, 62, hailing from different villages under Dimla upazila.
“During primary interrogation, the arrested persons admitted that they were planning to conduct subversive activities,” the OC said adding that a number of criminal cases related to conducting subversive activities were pending against most of them.
A case was filed in this connection against the arrested persons with Dimla Thana police, he added.
