National Mourning Day observed across country
DHAKA, Aug 15, 2018 (BSS) – The National Mourning Day commemorating the 43rd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed across the country today through various programmes.
Thousands of people from all strata participated in the programmes to pay their homage to the greatest Bangali of the all time.
They also raised demand for bringing back home the condemned fugitive killers of Bangabandhu from abroad and execution of the court’s verdict handed down to the killers in the Bangabandhu Murder Case.
In Rajshahi, the people of the city and its adjoining districts observed the day with a fresh vow to materializing the dreams of Bangabandhu to build a ‘Sonar Bangla’ and to bring back the fugitive convicted killers of Bangabandhu to execute verdict of the murder case.
Various government and non-government organizations, political parties, socio-cultural organizations and educational institutions, including Rajshahi University and RUET, have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day.
The district administration organised a discussion and Doa Mahfil in the Shilpakala Academy auditorium with Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader in the chair.
The upazila administration and upazila units of AL and its front organisations and Muktijoddha Sangsad have also adopted day-long programmes to observe the day.
In Rangpur, the National Mourning Day-2018 and 43rd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed paying rich tribute to Bangabandhu.
The district administration, Rangpur zila unit of Awami League (AL) and its associate organisations, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, educational institutions, different government departments and other organisations observed the day through elaborate programmes.
In Sylhet, the National Mourning Day and 43rd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed in the district through various programmes in befitting manner.
The district administration and Sylhet City unit of AL organized different programmes, including placing floral wreath on Bangabandhu’s portrait, holding discussions and milad mahfils, to mark the day.
In Khulna, the National Mourning Day and 43rd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed in the city and district with due respect and solemnity.
Various government and non-government organizations, including the district administration and City Corporation, different political parties, socio-cultural organizations and educational institutions, organized various programmes to mark the day.

In Netrokona, the National Mourning Day and 43rd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed in the district through various programmes in befitting manner.
Marking the day, Awami Swechchasebok League (ASL) Netrakona district unit staged a human chain in front of the local Awami League office at Cotobazer in the district demanding bringing back the condemned fugitive killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to the country from abroad and their execution.
In Faridpur, the National Mourning Day and 43rd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed here in befitting manner with due solemnity as elsewhere of the country.
People from all walks of life, government and non-government organisations, political parties, socio-cultural organisations and educational institutions arranged elaborate programmes to observe the day.
The floral wreaths were placed on the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahaman at Govt Rajedra Collegr Campus of the town on behalf of LGRD Minister Engineer Khandakaer Mosharraf Hossain, Deputy Commissioner Ommey Salma Tanzia, Zila Parishad Chairman Lokman Hossain Mridah, Superintendent of Police Jakir Hossain Khan.
Faridpur district unit of AL and its associate bodies organized different programmes, including discussions and milad mahfils to observe the day.
In Chattogram, people of the port city and its adjacent districts paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his 43rd martyrdom anniversary. The day was observed with a fresh call for executing the verdict of Bangabandhu murder case by bringing back the fugitive convicted killers of Bangabandhu and his family members.
Apart from the Chattogram city, north and south district units of Awami League (AL) and its front organisations, different socio-cultural organisations, trade unions, district administration and professional bodies organised separate discussion meetings marking the day.
In Mymensingh, the National Mourning Day and the 43rd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed with due respect.
Mymensingh district administration and district unit of AL arranged different programmes, including placing of floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, holding discussions and doa mahfil.
Besides, the National Mourning Day was also observed in other districts of the country including Narayanganj, Jamalpur, Panchagarh, Naogaon, Barguna, Brahmanbaria, Jhalokati, Moulvibazar, Chandpur, Habiganj, Keraniganj, Khagrachhari, Kushtia, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Lakshmipur, Magura, Meherpur, Narail, Nilphamari, Noakhali, Pabna, Panchagarh, Shariatpur, Pirojpur, Gopalganj, Rangamati and Thakurgaon.
Thousands of people from all strata in these districts also echoed the call for bringing back home the fugitive killers of Bangabandhu from abroad and execution of the court’s verdict.
