National Mourning Day observed in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Aug 15, 2018 (BSS) – Tens of thousands of people observed the
National Mourning Day here today, paying tributes to Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his 43rd martyrdom anniversary.

The district administration, Rangpur zila unit of Awami League (AL) and
its associate organisations, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, educational
institutions, different government departments and other organisations
observed the day through elaborate programmes.

The observance began with hoisting of the national flag at half-mast in
all government, semi-government, autonomous, private buildings and
educational institutions after sunrise.

Later, high officials, political leaders, head of different organisations,
institutions and departments and common people placed wreaths at the mural of
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman after wearing black
badges.

A one-minute silence was observed in front of the mural of Bangabandhu and
special munajats were offered there followed by bringing out a mourning
procession with participation of thousands of people from all strata.

The District Information Office screened documentary films on ‘Chironjib
Bangabandhu’, Osomapta Mohakabbyo’, ‘Amader Bangabandhu’, ‘Swadhinota Amar
Swadhinota’ and ‘Swadhinota Amader Ki Kore Halo’ and feature film ‘Guerrilla’
at cinema halls and open places here.

The Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh Betar aired special programmes since the
morning and local newspapers published special supplements on Bangabandhu on
the day.

Bangladesh Shishu Academy and other cultural organisations organised
competitions on drawing and essay writing for children in line with the
National Mourning Day, focusing life and works of Bangabandhu and national
history.

The Islamic Foundation arranged various programmes, including recitation
from the Holy Qur’an, Hamd, Na’at and doa mahfil followed by a special
discussion on the life and works of Bangabandhu at its auditorium.

Discussions on Bangabandhu were arranged in schools, colleges, madrasas
and other educational institutions while milad mahfil and special munajats
offered at religious institutions seeking divine blessings for the departed
soul of Bangabandhu.

Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed attended a discussion arranged
by the district administration at Town hall auditorium as the chief guest
with Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib in the chair.

Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Devas Bhattacharya, Police
Superintendant Mizanur Rahman, Additional Police Superintendant Saifur Rahman
Saif, Acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, its General
Secretary Rezaul Karim Raju, Organising Secretary Motahar Hossain Mandal
Mowla, Treasurer Abul Kashem, Office Secretary Tauhidur Rahman Tutul and
Publicity Secretary Rosy Rahman, city AL President Shafiur Rahman Shafi and
its General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mandal and General Secretary of district
Mohila AL Advocate Zakia Sultana Choity, among others, addressed at the
discussion.

The city and upazila units of AL and its associate bodies, Bangabandhu
Parisahd, Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jyote, Rangpur City Corporation, district
and upazila units of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, educational
institutions and other organisations observed the day through similar
programmes.
