PM pays tributes to Opposition Chief Whip Tajul Islam

DHAKA, Aug 14, 2018 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid rich tributes to Opposition Chief Whip in Parliament Tajul islam Chowdhury by placing wreaths on his coffin at South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban here this afternoon.

After placing the wreath, the prime minister stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memory of Tajul Islam, a Jatiya Party MP from Kurigram-2 constituency.

Flanked by senior leaders and parliament members of the party, Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League president, laid another wreath on the coffin on behalf of the party.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Begum Raushan Ershad also paid homage to Tajul Islam by laying wreaths on his coffin. A wreath was placed on behalf of President Abdul Hamid.

Earlier, a namaz-e-janaza of Tajul Islam was held at the South Plaza of the JS after Asr prayers.

A huge number of people including ministers, chief whip, whips, lawmakers, senior leaders of different political parties and officials and employees of the JS attended the janaza.

Later, a munajat seeking eternal peace of the departed soul was offered. The Pesh Imam of the Jatiya Sangsad Mosque conducted the munajat.

Tajul, who was elected lawmaker for seven times from Kurigram-2 constituency, breathed his last at the United Hospital in the city last night.
