Met office forecasts rain throughout country until early tomorrow

DHAKA, Aug 14, 2018 (BSS) – Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD)
predicts light to moderate rain or thundershowers throughout country in the
next 24 hours ending 9 am tomorrow.

“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or
squally wind is likely to occur at most places in Khulna, Barisal and
Chattogram divisions and at several places in Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka,
Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at some
places during the period,” said a met bulletin issued this morning.

Day temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly
unchanged over the country.

“Monsoon is active over Bangladesh and moderate to strong over North Bay
while a low over Northwest Bay and adjoining area has intensified into a
well-marked low over the same area and it is likely to intensify further,”
the bulletin said.

The trough of monsoon axis runs through Rajasthan, Horiyana, Uttar
Pradesh, Bihar, the centre of the well-marked low and thence northeastwards
to Assam across Gangetic West Bengal and central part of Bangladesh, it
added.

The maximum temperature was recorded 35.8 degrees Celsius yesterday at
Rajshahi while today’s minimum temperature 24.7 degrees Celsius at Ragamati
in Chattogram division.

The highest rainfall in the last 24 hours as of 6 am today was recorded 45
mm at Teknaf at Nikli in Dhaka division.

The sun sets at 6:34 pm today and rises at 5:33 am tomorrow in the
capital.

Meanwhile, a Met office warning message said, rain or thundershowers
accompanied by temporary South or South-Easterly gusty or squally wind speed
45-60 kph is likely to occur in the regions of Dhaka, Faridpur, Jashore,
Kushtia, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s
Bazar.

River ports are advised to hoist cautionary signal number one.
