No state-owned factory will be handed over for privatisation: Amu

DHAKA, Nov 10, 2017 (BSS) – Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu yesterday said the government would not hand over any land of state-owned factories to the private sector.

“The unused land of the state-owned factories will be used for the purpose of production of other government organisations. No state-owned factories will be handed over for privatisation,” he said.

The minister was speaking as the chief guest at the National Industry Development Parishad Executive Committee (NIDPEC) meeting at his Secretariat office here.

The government has already handed over many state-owned factories to the private sector, but many industrial units could not start their operations, Amu said, adding that the government was on the process to bring the non-functional factories back.

He said the government would continue production of some industrial
products with a view to controlling the prices of products.

The minister asked the officials to start the Technical Training Centre (TTC) activities for building skilled manpower in the industrial sector.

Among others, Senior Secretary of the Agriculture Ministry Mohammad
Moinuddin Abdullah, Industries Secretary Muhammad Abdullah, Bangladesh Tariff Commission Chairman M Zahir Uddin Ahmed and Acting Secretary of the Science and Technology Ministry M Anwar Hossain were present in the meeting.
