ACC for checking production of inferior drugs

DHAKA, Aug 13, 2018 (BSS) – The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)
today asked the authorities of Drug Administration to take effective
steps to stop the production of substandard drugs harmful to public
health.

“The ACC has been monitoring the activities of the Drug
Administration to ensure that no corruption can take place…legal
action would be taken in case of corruption to this end,” said
director general (admin) and also coordinator of the ACC enforcement
team.

A three-member team of the national anti-graft agency came up
with the request after visiting Drug Administration office in the
capital.

The Commission sent the team to Drug Administration office after
receiving allegations over its hotline 106 that some substandard
drugs are being illegally produced in exchange of bribe.

It was alleged that production of the drugs, which were
prohibited by Drug Control Committee, is being produced with help of
the Drug Administration officials, an ACC press release said.

During the visit, the ACC team wanted to know how some
Valsartan kinds of drugs produced by Zhejiang Huahai Pharmaceuticals
ltd, China, are still available in Bangladesh market after World
Health Organisation (WHO) ordered to withdraw those from the global
market after getting ingredients responsible for cancer.

In reply, the Drug Administration informed the ACC team that
necessary raw-materials for producing the drugs are being imported
from another country.
