Khokon for city government to solve problems in city

DHAKA, Aug 13, 2018 (BSS) – Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon today laid emphasis on forming city government to resolve long-standing problems in Dhaka city.

“A total of 56 service organizations are working in Dhaka city…. But these organizations are not functioning properly due to lack of coordination,” he told a view-exchange meeting at the ministerial conference room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban here.

All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) organized the meeting on “City corporations and ensuring coordinated health monitoring in municipalities.”

Lawmakers Abdul Wadud, Zahid Ahsan Rasel and Shirin Nayeem Punam, officials of different local and international organizations, among others, addressed the meeting with APPG Chairman Md Israfil Alam in the chair. General Secretary of APPG Shishir Shil conducted the meeting.

Khokon said city dwellers are facing different kinds of problems including traffic jam and water-logging as a result of inadequate coordination among service providing organizations.

He said, “We have to ensure better coordination among these organizations through forming a city government, which eventually help public representatives solve problems in Dhaka city.”

The government has ensured healthcare facilities for the people of rural areas, the DSCC Mayor said, “Poor people in urban areas are being deprived of healthcare facilities as we could not build medical infrastructures for them.”

Khokon urged the authorities concerned to provide medical facilities for the urban poor living in slum areas in Dhaka city.
