Price fall in large-caps drives stocks down

DHAKA, Aug 13, 2018 (BSS) – Stock markets closed on Monday with downward
trend mainly due to price fall in large-cap securities.

The falling major sectors were food and allied, textile, tannery industry
and pharmaceuticals and chemicals. A total of 151 securities of the large-cap
group moved down due to lower activities.

The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with
28.46 points down at 5,378.73. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also
followed the same trend with 7.84 points down at 1,228.14 and with 7.76
points down at 1,884.95.

The daily trade fell to 18.11 crore shares from Sunday’s 25.09 crore
shares and the day’s trade value at DSE decreased to Taka 648.23 crore from
Taka 818.40 crore of the previous session.

At DSE, out of the day’s 338 securities, prices of 102 securities closed
higher against 200 losing issues. The major gaining issues were Midas
finance, Rupali Insurance, Ambee Pharma, Renwick Ja and Fortune. The major
losing companies were Zeal Bangla, Dulamia Cotton, Samata Leather, ACFL and
Imam Button.

BBS Cables topped the turnover list followed by Ifad Autos, Shepherd,
DSSL and Lanka Bangla Finance. The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the
day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 85.59 points down at
16,538.96.

At CSE, 244 issues were traded. Of those, 70 closed higher and 152 closed
lower when 93.78 lakh shares worth Taka 32.76 crore changed hands.
