Dhaka-Delhi ties reach new height: PM

DHAKA, Aug 13, 2018 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said that the relations between Bangladesh and India reached a new height and both the countries give values to the existing ties.

The prime minister made the remarks when State Executive Member and Advisor to the BJP President in West Bengal, India Dr Anindya Gopal Mitra called on her at her office here this afternoon.

PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.

He said that Dr. Anindya Gopal Mitra also echoed the observation of the prime minister on the India-Bangladesh relationship.

Sheikh Hasina expressed her gratitude towards the Indian government and people for their overwhelming support to Bangladesh and its people during the Liberation War in 1971.

She said that after the killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15, 1975 the real history of the country was tempered.

“A generation was kept in the dark from knowing the true history of the country,” she said.

The prime minister mentioned that the new generation of the country is now very much conscious about the history of the country and they already knew about the history.

Dr Mitra told the prime minister that during Bangladesh’s Liberation War, he was a young politician.

He apprised the premier of his role during the war of Independence of Bangladesh.

Earlier, Dr Mitra paid his profound respect to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by garlanding his portrait kept in the PM’s office.

PM’s Principal Secretary M Nojibur Rahman and PMO Secretary Sajjadul Hassan were present during the call on.
