DHAKA, Aug 12, 2018 (BSS) – Two schoolboys drowned in the lake of Ramna Park in the capital while having a bath this afternoon, police and hospital sources said.

The victims were identified as Abdullah Al Mahfz and Naimuzzaman Chowdhury Adnan, students of class-nine (science group) of Wiles Little Flower School and College, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ramna Police Station Mohammad Mainul Islam told BSS.

He said the duo faced the tragic death while having a bath in the lake.

“Three friends of the same class went to Ramna Park to play football bunking their class at 12.30 pm. Later, the duo went for bathing in the lake,” the OC quoted another schoolboy Arif Hossain as saying.

“Adnan didn’t know how to swim. He was trying to swim riding on Mahfuz’s shoulder. But at one stage, both of them drowned.”

A hospital source said visitors at the park rescued them and rushed them to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where they were declared dead around 4.15pm.

Hailed from Kotiadi upazila of Kishoreganj, Mahfuz was the son of Masud Rana. He used to live at Tejgaon colony. Adnan’s village home is Maizdi upazila of Noakhali district.
