August 15 assassination was for erasing spirit of Liberation War: Amu

DHAKA, August 12, 2018 (BSS) – Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu today said the August 15 assassination was designed mainly to make Bangladesh a ‘loose confederation’ with Pakistan by erasing the spirit of the Liberation War.

“The Assassination of the 15 August was not a family assassination. It was a revolution of the defeated forces of the 1971,” he said.

The minister said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting and Doa Mahfil marking the National Mourning Day and 43rd Shahadat Anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) auditorium in the city.

Industries secretary Mohammad Abdullah presided over the discussion while Additional secretary of the ministry M Dabirul Islam and BCIC Chairman Shah M Aminul Hoq, among others, were present.

Amu said the defeated forces of 1971 killed Bangabandhu with his family members to turn Bangladesh into a failed state and taint the spirit of the Liberation War.

“It was a well-planned conspiracy to make Bangladesh a new Pakistan,” he added.

Through the assassination, Amu said, the development of Bangladesh was delayed for 40 years. “After the Liberation War, Bangabandhu took the second revolution programme for developing the country. If he could have implemented the programme, Bangladesh could have turned into a middle income country long ago,” he added.

Now, he said, Bangladesh is moving forward to a developed country under the prudent and dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by thwarting all conspiracies.
