Massive tree plantation to bring ecological balance stressed

RANGPUR, Aug 12, 2018 (BSS) – Educationists and environmental activists at
a function have stressed massive tree plantation to create an eco-friendly
green nature for bringing ecological equilibrium.

They came up with the opinion at the function arranged for plantation of
tree saplings on Rangpur Government Teachers’ Training College (RGTTC) campus
in the city on Saturday afternoon.

Manobadhikar and Poribesh Andolan (MAPA) Bangladesh jointly with the RGTTC
authority organised the function with Principal of RGTTC Professor Narayan
Kumar Kundu in the chair.

Chief Executive of MAPA Bangladesh and environmental activist Advocate
Munir Chowdhury, Director of the Riverine People Dr Tuhin Wadud, Eye
Specialist of Rangpur Medical College Hospital Dr GKM Afzal Khan, Regional
News Controller of Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh Betar Rashed Foysal Kabir,
cultural personality Monwar Hossain, Professor Maloy Kishore Bhattacharya,
addressed.

Moderated by Vice-principal of RGTTC Amjad Hossain, teachers and students
of the educational institution, MAPA activists and environmental,
sociocultural, human rights and professional activists of the city attended
the function.

Advocate Chowdhury discussed the importance of massive tree plantation to
protect the ecology retarding the desertification process with bringing
economic self-reliance.

He highly lauded the present government for implementing tree plantation
programmes to protect the ecology and bio-diversity for saving innumerable
living species including animals, birds, insects, aqua animals from
extinction.

Dr Wadud laid emphasis on massive tree plantation, involving students,
teachers, youths, men and women, to raise the forest area to 25 percent for
protecting Bangladesh from alarming consequences and catastrophes of climate
change.

Professor Kundu said tree plantation could help mitigate adverse impacts of
climate change and maintain ecological equilibrium.

He called upon every citizen for turning the tree plantation campaign into
a social revolution by planting at least three tree saplings annually and
taking care of the planted saplings to make the nature green and safeguard
environment.
