Security personnel killed in India-controlled Kashmir gunfight

NEW DELHI, Aug. 12, 2018 (BSS/XINHUA) – At least one security personnel
was killed and three others injured in an encounter with terrorists in
restive India-controlled Kashmir on Sunday morning, confirmed official
sources.

Two terrorists are reportedly trapped inside a house even as the encounter
is still undergoing in the Batamaloo area of India-controlled Kashmir’s
summer capital Srinagar city.

A senior police official Shesh Paul Vaid tweeted, “On a specific
information about the presence of terrorists in a hideout, an operation was
launched in Batamaloo leading to exchange of fire, one special operation
group’s boy martyred and three other security personnel sustained injuries.
Operation continues.”

Further reports of the encounter are awaited.

A guerilla war is going on between militants and Indian troops stationed
in Indian-controlled Kashmir since 1989. The gunfight between the two sides
takes place intermittently across the region.
