Ten-man CSKA make 7,000km round trip for 1-1 draw
MOSCOW, Aug 12, 2018 (BSS/AFP) – Ten-man CSKA Moscow needed a late penalty
to salvage a 1-1 draw at Premier League newboys Yenisei Krasnoyarsk on
Saturday as the Russian giants’ early season woes deepened.
The result left last season’s runners-up fourth from bottom of the table
with just two points and awaiting their first win after three games.
In a fixture which required CSKA to make a gruelling 7,000km round-trip,
they were reduced to 10 men five minutes into the second half when midfielder
Kirill Nababkin was sent off for kicking an opponent.
Yenisei made the visitors pay in the 58th minute when striker Mikhail
Kostyukov scored past World Cup goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev after being set-up
by Austrian teammate Darko Bodul.
Uruguayan substitute Abel Hernandez rescued a point for CSKA with a
penalty in the 79th minute after Bodul fouled Mario Fernandez.
Cape Verde forward Ze Luis netted a second-half winner as Spartak Moscow
struggled to a 1-0 home win over nine-man Anzhi Makhachkala to take top spot
in the table.
Spartak are a point ahead of Zenit St Petersburg who go to Rubin Kazan on
Monday and Rostov who suffered a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of promoted
Samara.
Anzhi defended well in the first half but their hopes of getting something
out of the game disappeared in 18 second-half minutes when Venezuelan forward
Andres Ponce and full-back Dmitry Belorukov were red-carded.
Ze Luis scored the winner in the 70th minute with a close-range header
from Dutch winger Quincy Promes’ cross.
“It’s always extremely hard for any team to score against rivals who sit
in and around their own penalty area,” said Spartak boss Massimo Carrera.
“But we did everything we needed for the win today.”
