DHAKA, Aug 11, 2018 (BSS) – Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said no dialogue could be taken place on conditional basis.
“Dialogue can’t take place on condition and it should be held spontaneously . . . but BNP sets condition at all things,” he told replying to a question of newsmen while visiting the progress of Elevated Expressway’s construction work at Kawla here.
Noting that there cannot be any condition prior to holding any talks, the AL general secretary said, “It cannot be a courtesy if I phone the BNP secretary general, and then he will call me back”.
Quader said Mizra Fakhrul never phoned him but he (Quader) enquired about his (Fakhrul) health condition while he was ill.
“I met him at Syedpur Airport. I willingly went in front of him but he turned his face aside,” Quader mentioned.
The AL general secretary also bitterly criticized BNP secretary general for his remark “AL is suffering from hydrophobia”. “People generally suffer from hydrophobia, if dog bites them,” he said and questioned about the identity of those who pass such remarks.
Meanwhile, Quader, at a mourning discussion organized by Awami Swechchasebak League (ASL), said BNP’s dream of unseating the government would evaporate as like as camphor.
“The government would be changed only through getting the people’s verdict,” the minister added.
Referring to BNP leader Barrister Moudud Ahmed’s threat to topple down the government shortly, the AL senior leader said Moudud cannot be a faithful for the democracy as he grabbed a house by preparing fake documents in the name of dead person.
He was also very critical of the BNP leaders’ remarks on the Quota and road safety.
Obaidul Quader alleged that being defeated in the quota movement, they (BNP) depended on the students’ movement and subsequently they tarnished the image of the country as it lodged complaint to the foreign quarters and sought justice from them.
Quader urged the party leaders and workers to go forward by upholding the ideals of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Speaking on the occasion, AL joint-general secretary Mahbub-Ul-Alam Hanif said BNP must give up conspiracy if they want to sit for talks. “Because conspiracy and dialogue cannot run at the same time,” Hanif added.
ASL president Advocate Molla Mohammad Abu Kawsar presided over the meeting. AL organizing secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, MP, and ASL general secretary Pankaj Debnath, MP, also spoke.
