RANGPUR, Aug 11, 2018 (BSS) – Director General (DG) of the Department of
Agriculture Extension (DAE) Agriculturist Mohammad Mohsin has said the
Rangpur region is suitable for enhancing cultivation of eco-friendly and less
irrigation water consuming Aus rice.
“The farmers have exceeded the fixed Aus rice cultivation target by 28,000
hectares of land this season in the country. Of the total, the farmers
managed to exceed the fixed Aus rice farming target by 15,000 hectares of
land alone in Rangpur region,” he said.
The DAE chief disclosed the information while addressing a view-sharing
meeting with the agriculture officers in the conference room of the DAE’s
Additional Director’s office here on Friday as the chief guest, a press
release said today.
The event was arranged as part of its DG’s ‘Inspection of ongoing
agricultural activities and taking necessary steps’ programme in Rangpur
agriculture region with its Regional Additional Director Md Shah Alam in the
chair.
Vice-principals of different Agriculture Training Institutes (ATI), Deputy
Directors, District Training Officers, Additional Deputy Directors,
Horticulture Specialists and Upazila Agriculture Officers of the DAE from all
over Rangpur region were present.
Vice-principal of Tazhat ATI Agriculturist Md Golam Mostafa, Deputy
Director of Burirhat Horticulture Centre Agriculturist KM Moududul Islam,
Deputy Director of Rangpur DAE Agriculturist Dr Md Sarwarul Haque and
Mithapukur Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Md Khorshed Alam
narrated the ongoing field level agricultural activities, issues, problems
and necessary suggestions.
Regional Farm Broadcasting Officer of the Agriculture Information Service
Agriculturist Md Abu Sayem moderated the function.
The DAE Chief said farmers exceeded the fixed Aus rice farming target in
Rangpur region to achieve a bumper output following adoption of time-
befitting technologies and distribution of incentives by the present pro-
farmer government.
“There are ample scopes to enhance Aus rice farming in Rangpur agriculture
region,” he said and suggested the field level agriculture officials for
adopting plans to inspire the local farmers in enhancing cultivation of less
irrigation water consuming Aus rice.
He expressed satisfaction over adoption of the ‘Logovo’ method of
transplantation of Aman rice seedling in rows by keeping a row blank after
every ten rows in the fields.
To reduce the risk of floods, he directed his field level officials to
strengthen monitoring of the prepared late variety Aman rice seedbeds on
highlands and floating seedbeds in low-lying flood-prone areas so that there
was no seedling crisis for floods.
