Road crashes kill 5 in Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha
RANGPUR, Aug 10, 2018 (BSS)- Five people were killed and 10 others injured
in two separate road accidents in Lalmonirhat and Gaibandha districts last
night and this morning.
Police and hospital sources said three persons were killed on the spot when
a speedy truck hit a rickshaw in front of the BGB Canteen on the Lalmonirhat-
Burimari highway in Lalmonirhat district town at 9:30 pm on Thursday.
“The deceased were identified as rickshaw driver Dulal Mian, 30, of
Khatapara area in Lalmonirhat town, Jahangir Alam, 40, and Motaleb Hossain,
40, of Patgram municipality in Lalmonirhat district,” officer-in-charge (OC)
of Lalmonirhat Sadar Thana Mahfuz Alam told BSS today.
In Gaibandha, two people were killed and 10 others injured when a
passenger bus overturned while overtaking a truck at RV Cold Storage point on
the Rangpur-Dhaka highway under Sadullapur upazila this morning.
“The deceased were identified as driver of the passenger bus Saiful Mian,
40, of Panchagarh and its passenger Chandni Akhter, 10, daughter of Sarforaz
of Mirpur-11 area in Dhaka city,” said OC of Gobindaganj Highway Police Thana
Akhteruzzaman.
Being informed, police, fire service and civil defense personnel rushed to
the spot, rescued the injured bus passengers and sent them to nearby Pirganj
and Polashbari Upazila Health Complexes, Akhteruzzaman added.
Police recovered bodies of the deceased persons and seized the ill-fated
passenger bus.
Two separate cases were filed in these connections with the respective
police stations.
