Four JMB operatives arrested from Patgram

RANGPUR, Aug 9, 2018 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 arrested four
operatives of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahedeen Bangladesh (JMB)
with huge arms, ammunitions and ‘jihadi’ books from Patgram municipality of
Lalmonirhat in the early hours of today.

“Acting on a tip off, a special operational team of the Militancy Cell of
RAB-13 from its Rangpur headquarters conducted a raid at a furniture shop in
Patgram town and arrested the militants,” said a press release issued by
Assistant Director (ASP) of Rangpur RAB-13 Khondker Golam Mortuza.

The arrested militants — Apel Mistri, 30, and Shafikul Islam Shafik, 23,
of village Rasulganj, Zahid Hossain, 19, of village Sarderpara and Mokhlesur
Rahman, 30, of village Sohagpur in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat — are
members of Lalmonirhat district JMB unit.

“The elite force also seized two foreign pistols with two magazines and
five bullets, two locally-made shooter guns, huge provocative ‘jihadi’ books,
leaflets and four mobile phone sets used for militant activities during the
raid,” the release said.

During primary interrogation, the arrested JMB operatives admitted that
they remained in hideouts for the past 1-2 years and conducted organisational
activities. They made plans to conduct subversive activities during this
time.

“The arrested JMB men had been engaged in inspiring innocent young people
to become members, enlisting new members and providing them training on
militancy, collecting fund and purchasing arms and ammunitions with the
money,” the release said.

After filing two separate cases under the Arms Act and Anti-terrorism Act
in these connections against the arrested JMB operatives, the elite force
handed them over to Patgram Thana police later today.

Talking to BSS this afternoon, Commanding Officer of Rangpur RAB-13
Battalion Md Mozammel Haque said the arrested JMB members had plans to
conduct various types of subversive activities at different places of greater
Rangpur region.

“We have engaged our all-out efforts to collect information about the other
members of the banned militant outfit to bring them under the law of the
land,” Mozammel Haque added.

On August 3 last, RAB-13 arrested JMB’s Lalmonirhat District Ameer Fazle
Rabbi alias Robbu, 25, its members Shahin Islam, 35, and Hasan Masud, 27, of
Lalmonirhat district with huge arms, ammunitions, jihadi books and electronic
devices, he said.
