DHAKA, August 09, 2018 (BSS) – The government has decided to make Barapukuria coal-fired power plant functional during the Eid-ul-Azha aimed at supplying electricity to northern region smoothly.

“Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) wants to keep uninterrupted power supply during the Eid in northern region,” Director (Public Relations) of BPDB Saiful Hasan Chowdhury told BSS here today.

He said three units of Barapukuria coal-fired power plant have a total production capacity of 525 megawatts as two units having generation capacity of 125 MW and 275 MW of the plant are ready to go into operation. To this end, the BPDB has decided to keep the plant operational, he added.

With the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Haisna’s sincere efforts, the power generation reached to 11,387 MW on July 18 this year, while the generation capacity reached to 18,753 MW. Currently, the government brought 90 percent people under electricity coverage, according to the power cell information.
