Govt urges owners to pay Eid bonus by Aug 16

DHAKA, Aug 9, 2018 (BSS) – State Minister for Labour and Employment M
Muzibul Haq today urged apparels factory owners to pay bonus of workers by
August 16.

He also urged the owners to pay partial salary of the current month by
August 19 of this month for celebrating Eid-ul Azha.

The State Minister made the call while addressing the 37th meeting of the
Crisis Management Core Committee at the ministry conference room here.

The State Minister said as the holy Eid-ul Azha would be celebrated on
Aug 22 or 23, the factory owners are requested to pay their workers salary
within 19 of this month.

He also said the garment owners should pay salary of 10-15 days of the
current month so that workers could celebrate their Eid.

The labour minister, however, told the meeting that there is no problem
regarding the payment of salary and bonus in the factories run under
compliance, but it can be a problem for a few small factories.

The Labour and Employment Ministry, Department of Inspection for
Factories and Establishments (DIFE), Industrial Police, BGMEA, BKMEA and
different labour organisations will closely monitor this situation, the
minister added.

Leaders from different ministries, agencies and labour organisations
including Labour and Employment Secretary Afroza Khan, Additional Secretary
of the Commerce Ministry Tapan Kanti Gosh, Director General of the Industrial
Police Abdus Salam, Inspector General of the Department of Inspection for
Factories and Establishments M Shamsuzzaman Bhuiyan, Director General of the
Department of Labour Shibnath Roy, BGMEA vice-president SM Abdul Mannan
Kotchi, BKMEA vice-president Mostafa Zaman Pasha, Garments Workers United
Federation President Roy Ramesh Chandra, Garments Sramik Karmachari League
President Lima Ferdous and Bangladesh Jatiya Garment Sramik Kormochari League
President Sirajul Islam Rony were also present.
