Muhith for accelerating financial inclusion activities

DHAKA, August 9, 2018 (BSS) – Finance Minister AMA Muhith today underscored the need for accelerating the financial inclusion activities to reach the banking services to the doorsteps of the grassroots people.

“We are trying to accelerate the financial inclusion activities. We will have to increase the branches of banks across the country for ensuring banking services for all,” he said, speaking as the chief guest at a programme on the “National Financial Inclusion Strategy (NFIS)” at Westin Hotel in the city.

Bangladesh Bank and Financial Institution Division jointly organized the programme. The event was supported by Business Finance for the Poor in Bangladesh (BFP-B) project funded by UK Aid.

Among others, State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan, Chief Coordinator for SDG Affairs in the Prime Minister’s Office M Abul Kalam Azad, Senior Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division M Eunusur Rahman and Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir were present at the function.

MA Mannan said the government has achieved remarkable success to alleviate poverty as it is making all sorts of efforts in this regard.

The government has also taken initiatives to reform the financial sector for accelerating the economic activities in the country, he added.

Eunusur Rahman said the mobile banking and agent banking are playing a vital role to bring all the people under financial inclusion.
