SM Sultan’s 94th birth anniversary tomorrow
NARAIL, Aug 9, 2017 (BSS) – The 94th birth anniversary of eminent artist SM
Sultan will be observed at his hometown here tomorrow.
The district administration and SM Sultan Foundation have chalked out
elaborate programmes to mark the day at Sultan Smriti Sangrahasala. The
programmes include placing wreaths at Sultan’s grave, doa mahfil, children’s
art competition and discussion.
Narail Deputy Commissioner Md Emdadul Haque Chowdhury is expected to attend
the programme as the chief guest. SM Sultan Foundation’s Secretary Ashiqur
Rahman Miku said all preparations have been made for a successful observance
of the birth anniversary of the legendary artist.
SM Sultan, a legendary artist of Bangladesh, won Ekushey Padak in 1982,
Bangladesh Charu Shilpi Sangsad Award in 1986 and Swadhinata Padak in 1993.
He was declared the “Man of Asia” in 1982 by Cambridge University and
Bangladesh government declared him as “Resident Artist” in 1984.
Artist Sultan was born to a poor family at Masumdia in Narail town on 10
August, 1924. He died in Jessore Combined Military Hospital on October 10,
1994.
