22,398 drivers sued for traffic rules violation

DHAKA, Aug 08, 2018 (BSS) – Police have taken legal actions against 22,398 drivers across the country for traffic rules violation in four days of the ongoing Traffic Week.

“As many as 76,871 cases were also lodged against different modes of vehicles and seized 2307 of those across the country during the period for traffic rules violation,” Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of media Md. Sohel Rana told BSS this evening.

Police realized Taka 2.52 crore as fine in the four days of the Traffic Week that started on August 5 and would end on August 11, he added.

However, police today filed cases against 18322 vehicles and 7009 drivers in the six metropolitan areas, eight ranges and highway range across the country, he informed.

The legal actions have been taken mainly for having no driving license and fitness certificates of the vehicles.

Meanwhile, traffic division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in their simultaneous drives on the city streets on Wednesday filed 4706 cases against various vehicles for traffic rules violation, said an official release.

Of the total cases, 384 cases were lodged for driving on wrong sides, 64 for using hydraulic horns, eight for using hotter and beckon lights and 25 others for using tinted glass.

DMP personnel filed 1357 cases for having no traffic license and 174 for having no fitness certificates.

It also filed 2448 cases were lodged against motorcycles and seized 79 others.

Some 68 cases, including 51 video cases, were registered against drivers of different modes of vehicles on charges of talking over mobile phones while they were driving.
