Maintaining social harmony is of paramount importance

RAJSHAHI, Nov 7, 2017 (BSS)- Speakers at a discussion unanimously said maintaining social harmony is of paramount importance for the sake of institutionalization of democracy besides ensuring good governance everywhere in the society.

Responsive and positive role by all quarters including the political leaders has become indispensable for maintaining peace and social harmony for overall development of the nation.

For the sake of building the country as peaceful motherland, all conscious, patriotic and peace-loving people should come forward and work together.

They were addressing an orientation meeting of ‘Strengthening Political Leadership (SPL) project’ at Naohata Pourasava auditorium under Paba Upazila in the district today.

Regional office of The Hunger Project Bangladesh (THPB) organised the meeting in association with Democracy International, USAID and UKAID.

Pourasava Mayor Mokbul Hossain, Upazila Vice-chairman Ashraful Haque, Pourasava Councilor Azizul Islam, journalist Kazi Nazmul Islam, women leaders Rahima Khatun and Sufiya Hassan and Union Parishad Member Kahinur Begum addressed the meeting.

During his concept paper presentation, Subrata Kumar Paul, Regional Coordinator of SPL Project, said the nation would get rid of conflicts and confusion if the people of the society as well as the state machineries took a positive approach to establish peace and amity from their own position.

Various other issues like communal harmony, right to information for creating awareness, prevention of violence against women and quality improvement in primary education were discussed elaborately in the meeting.

The meeting said enriching youths’ leadership along with their capacity building is the precondition to generate job opportunities, social development and free the society from gender discrimination and freeing the young generation from drugs addiction.

Pourasava Mayor Mokbul Hossain said all sorts of violence, crimes and other anomalies in the society could be reduced to a greater extent through maintaining social and communal harmony everywhere.

To this end, political parties, professional leaders, development workers, influential persons and people in general should work together, he added.
