Call for extending support to children with special needs

RANGPUR, Aug 08, 2018 (BSS) – Government officials and human rights
activists at a function here this afternoon called for extending support to
the children with special needs to flourish their talents for their
mainstreaming in the society.

“The children with special needs are integral part of the society and the
present government has taken steps for their development and welfare,” Deputy
Commissioner Enamul Habib said while addressing the function as the chief
guest.

‘Dristi Sangstha’, a non-governmental organisation working for welfare of
the disabled population, organised the function at ‘Dristi Protibondhi
School’ auditorium to distribute special inputs to the hearing-impaired and
vision-impaired children of the institution.

With Executive Director of ‘Dristi Sangstha’ Ashique Iqbal in the chair,
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Rabiul Islam attended the
function as special guest.

Teacher of the school Ashish Kumar Sarker, human rights activists Hossain
Abid Ali, Hamidul Islam Hamid and Mostafizur Rahman Dulal, addressed the
event.

The chief guest suggested for ensuring equal treatment to the children
with special needs for their normal growth in congenial atmosphere to make
best use of their talents and capabilities in the nation-building process.

“Side by side with the government efforts, the non-governmental
development organisations should come forward to supplement the government
endevours,” he added.

Other speakers put emphasis on ensuring all basic rights of the children
with physical, intellectual and mental disabilities like other privileged
children in the society.

They appreciated the massive steps taken by the present government led by
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to ensure education, health services and
training for flourishing talents of the children with special needs.

Later, he distributed special types of chairs, standing frames and
walkers among the hearing-impaired and vision-impaired students of the
institution.
