Wheat-laden lighter vessel capsize in Bay

CHATTOGRAM, Aug 7, 2018 (BSS) – A Narayanganj bound wheat-laden lighter
vessel from Chattogram port capsized in the Bay of Bengal early today.

MV Pathgati-2, carrying over 1,100 kilogrammes of wheat, capsized in the
Bay after it was hit by another vessel MV Abdullah Asif-10 at the Sandwip-
Bhashanchar channel around 2.30 am early today.

Omar Faruk, secretary of Chittagong Port Authority said all 14 crew
members of the vessel were rescued unhurt by nearby boats after getting
signal seeking help.

“A ship of Bangladesh Navy has already reached there,” he added.

Seven of the crew members were rescued by MV Abdullah Al Asif and a Navy
ship – BNS Sandwip in the morning while the rest of them were rescued by
noon, Faruk said.

The ship started from Chattogram port area at 1 am early today with 14
crew members and was heading towards Narayanganj when the incident occurred,
he said.

There was no problem in operation of other vessels in the sea as the
location is outside the channel, Faruk further added.
