Govt providing utmost security to children, students: Inu

DHAKA, Aug 7, 2018 (BSS) – Information Minister and Jatiya Samajtantrik
Dal (JSD) President Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, today said that the statements of
the US Embassy and the UN office in Dhaka were devoid of diplomatic norms and
demanded their withdrawal.

“Their statements completely misrepresent the reality,” Inu said adding in
such cases the norm was to discuss such matters with the host government. He
demanded that they withdraw the statements.

The minister added on the contrary, the government had given utmost
security to students who had carried out a movement demanding safe roads.

He said this while exchanging views with journalists at his Secretariat
office.

Admitting that there were clashes in Dhanmandi area of the capital, Inu
said no attack took place on protesters and children. There were some
sporadic clashes across the capital which the law enforcers tried to control.

According to the statement, the children’s protests had subsided through
use of force by carrying out barbaric attacks on them, but the truth was far
from it as no such incident occurred in the first place, the minister said.

Alleging that the statements misrepresented the situation in Dhaka, the
minister said that it was an interference in the country’s internal affairs.

A written response of the government in this regard will be sent to the US
Embassy and UN office in Dhaka, he added.

The minister also said that those who attacked journalists during the
student protests demanding safe roads would be identified and brought to
book.

“Towards the end of the student demonstrations for safe roads, some
journalists were assaulted which is regrettable,” Inu said.

A letter will be sent to the home minister today to take measures for
identifying the culprits and take legal steps against them in this regard, he
added.
