Investment proposals rise by 140pc in July-Sept period

DHAKA, Nov 6, 2017 (BSS)-Overall investment proposals rose by Tk 407.40 billion or 140 percent during July-September of 2017, according to the latest data of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA).

During the three-month, BIDA received proposals involving a total of Tk 697.66 billion from local and foreign investors for investing in 391 industrial units.

In April-June period of 2017, BIDA got investment proposals involving Tk 290.25 billion for 443 industrial units.

According to the data of BIDA, local investment proposals rose by 88.16 percent during July-September of 2017. During this period, it received proposals for investing a total of Tk 516.27 billion from the local entrepreneurs for 361 industrial units.

The proposed amount was Tk 274.38 billion for 396 industrial units during April-June period of 2017.

The authority received proposals involving a total of Tk 181.38 billion from overseas investors for 10 fully foreign owned industrial units and 20 joint venture units with local entrepreneurs.

BIDA said the highest number of proposals came for the chemical industries, which was 33.98 percent of the total proposed amount. The service sector came next with 29.72 percent followed by engineering sector with 8.18 percent, agricultural sector with 4.11 percent, textile with 10.51 percent and allied with 7.28 percent.

The investment proposals from local and foreign entrepreneurs would create a total of 66,491 jobs in the country.
