BHOLA, Nov 6, 2017 (BSS) – Farmers are now expecting a bumper production of Aman paddy in the district as they have already exceeded this year’s cultivation target of the crop.

Additional 2,500 hectares have been brought under the Aman paddy cultivation during the current season.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) fixed a target to cultivate the paddy on 1,77,500 hectares with a plan for producing over 4,20 lakh tonnes of Aman rice.

But, the farmers have successfully brought 1,79,000 hectares under the cultivation programme taking advantage of favorable climatic conditions.

Meanwhile, the government has ensured supplying of improved quality seeds, seedlings, fertilizers and other agricultural inputs at fair prices, the DAE official said.

Besides, the government helped the farmers to run the Aman cultivation programme properly by distributing agricultural loan among them from all the state-run banks, the sources added.

Deputy Director of DAE Prosanto Kumar Saha said the field-workers and crop specialists were working in the rural areas to encourage the farmers to boost production.

If the climate remains favorable till the harvesting period, a bumper production of Aman rice is expected to be produced in the district, he added.
