3 more arrested over spreading rumours to instigate protest

DHAKA, Aug 06, 2018 (BSS) – Police, in separate raids, arrested three more people on Sunday on charges of spreading anti-government propaganda to instigate the ongoing protest over deaths of two students in the road accidents.

“We arrested three people, Alamgir Hossain, 31, Mahbubur Rahman alias Arman, 26, and Saidul Islam Touhid, 26, from different parts of the capital between 8pm to 11.30pm Sunday night for their involvement in spreading anti-government propaganda to instigate the ongoing protest using different social networking sites,” said an official of counter terrorism unit of police.

Police recovered mobiles, laptops, and memory cards from their possessions, he also said.

The arrestees were produced before the court seeking remand in connection with a case filed under ICT Act with Ramna Model Police Station on August 2.

Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Md Yasin Miah filed the case against the arrestees for giving posts, write-ups, photos, and videos aimed at turning the ongoing protest into a violent one.

Police said detained Mahbubur Rahman identified him as a cyber analyst and he is also known as Cyber Mahbub.

However, police also arrested photographer and also managing director of Drik Gallery Shahidul Alam in connection with a case filed under Information Communication Technology (ICT) Act from his Dhanmondi residence.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) earlier arrested an actress and model Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed for spreading rumours on facebook about “attacks on student protesters”.
