DHAKA, Aug 6, 2018 (BSS) – Students of 421 educational institutions in the Dhaka city at a meeting today announced that they would return to classes as the government had accepted their nine-point demand for road safety.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) organized the meeting to discuss “Road safety and our doings” at the Nagar Bhaban here.
Speaking on the occasion, DSCC Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon urged the students to return to classes as the government is taking all necessary initiatives to implement all demands of the students.
“We want to see bright future of the children….. Students should not continue their protests as they have become victorious…. So there is no need to stay on streets,” he added.
Oishi Das, a student of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, said, “I want to return to classes because the government has accepted all demands of students. I am urging the government to introduce improved traffic system in front of every schools and colleges”
Maisha, a student of Azimpur Girls’ High School, said, “Our demand is to ensure road safety. The government responded to our demands positively. We all should go back to classes.”
The DSCC Mayor said the BNP-Jamaat is conspiring to serve their ill political motive by capitalizing on the protests of students.
“They (BNP-Jamaat) are resorting to falsehood and spreading rumors using social media and other means. So, all sections of people, including guardians, have to remain alert so that the vested quarter cannot mislead the students for their interest,” he said.
General Secretary of Dhaka South City Unit of Awami League Shahe Alam Murad, Chief Executive Officer of DSCC Mohammad Bilal, senior journalist Syed Abul Maksud and heads of different educational institutions, among others, were present at the discussion.
