Budget for social welfare increased four times: Menon

DHAKA, Aug 6, 2018 (BSS) – Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon
today said budget allocation in social welfare sector was increased by four
times under the incumbent government for the wellbeing of country’s people.

“The present government has increased the budget four times during its
current tenure… In the last one year, the allocation was increased by 10%
so that we can perform our duties properly,” the Minister said as the chief
guest at the handing over ceremony of vehicles at his residence here, said a
press release.

A total of 48 motor cycles for 48 districts and two jeeps for Rajshahi
and Patuakhali districts were handed over to the people concerned to expedite
the activities of social wellfare activities in the field level.

“Recently, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has launched GTP (Government to
Person) online system to deliver the allowances at the right time as the
number of allowance-beneficiaries under the Social Welfare Ministry has stood
at 64 lakh,” he added.

Social Service Department (SSD) Director General Gazi Mohammad Nurul
Kabir, SSD Director (administration and finance) Begum Juliet, SSD Director
(Programme) Abu Mohammad Yusuf, among others, were present on the occasion.
