Children are superheroes of our times: Inu

DHAKA, Aug 05, 2018(BSS)-Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, said today that the children who were engaged in the “road safety” movement were the “superheroes” of our times.

He appreciated their great concern for bringing regularity in the traffic system and said that the extra-parliamentary opposition was out to use them as pawns in their subversive politics.

He criticized the BNP, Jamaat and others who he said were trying to turn the “road safety” movement into an anti-government one when the government had accepted all the children’s demands and was implementing them, one-by-one.

“Now that the government had accepted your demands, please go back home and to your schools,” he requested the agitating children.

The minister was speaking at a function for launching a book on the “Shadhin Bangla Betar Kendro” by reputed dentist, Professor Dr Aroop Ratan Chowdhury, who was a singer in the radio station.

Inu described the book as a story of the “sound warriors” of our Liberation War.

The Great Liberation War was a people’s war and the idea that freedom fighters alone fought and liberated the country was misleading, in more ways than one.

“Everybody participated in the Liberation War, except the few quislings of the Pakistan Army,” he said.

“The footballers with their boots, the intellectuals with their ideas and the politicians – all contributed their mite to the war effort,” he explained.

He appreciated Dr Chowdhury for writing his piece of experience and criticized people like A K Khandaker, Bir Uttam, who was a freedom fighter but tried to write the entire history of the War.

“That’s a job best done by academics,” Inu said.

Inu, a former Camp Chief and Trainer of 8,000 Freedom Fighters, said that one should restrict once reminiscences to his or her own experience.

‘It would be disastrous if such truncated experiences were passed off as overall history,” he observed.
