Early winter vegetables bring solvency to Panchagarh farmers

PANCHAGARH, Nov 5, 2017 (BSS) – Cultivation of early winter vegetables has brought financial solvency to many farmers in different areas of the district this year.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) officials here said farmers have put their best efforts in this season to cultivate different varieties of early winter vegetables including cauliflower, cabbage, gourd, bean, brinjal, tomato, radish and carrot.

Farmers have already started harvesting their agriculture products and supplying those to different kitchen markets of the country, they added.

Mobarak Ali, a farmer of Debiduba village in Debiganj upazila said, he cultivated early varieties of cauliflower on 40 decimals of land this year and already made a profit of taka 25,000 after meeting all expenditure. He is now expecting to earn more money by selling these products.

Local other farmers said a number of growers in the area have become financially solvent by farming the early variety of cauliflower.

DAE officials said cultivation of early winter vegetables is getting popularity in the district due to favourable weather. High market demand has also encouraged the farmers to cultivate those vegetables on a large scale of land this year, they added.
