FBCCI urges transport owners-workers to refrain from any programme

DHAKA, Aug 5, 2018 (BSS) – The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) has urged the transport owners and workers to refrain launching any programmes that can affect the economic activities and mount sufferings of the people.

The trade body leaders also urged the protesting students to return home as the government has taken steps to implement their demand for ensuring road safety.

“Country’s overall economic, especially the trade and commerce, will be affected if such an unstable situation continues ahead of Eid-ul-Azha,” said FBCCI president Md Shafiul Islam at a press conference here today.

He said the FBCCI has been working to ensure economic development, including maintaining existing trend of economic growth, export-import and investment.

Any programme such as transport strike will have a negative impact on the country’s image as well as investment environment, he added.

Supply of essential commodities is affected due to the transport strike and student agitation, he said, adding that as a result, small traders and entrepreneurs are facing an uncertain situation.

The FBCCI sought cooperation from all for maintaining a congenial environment in the country.
