Strengthen cooperative movement to attain SDGs: Officials

RANGPUR, Nov 5, 2017 (BSS) – Government officials at a post-rally discussion here have called for strengthening of the cooperative movement to enhance productivity for cutting rural poverty to attain the sustainable development goals (SDGs).

They came up with the opinion at the discussion organised by Divisional Cooperatives Office at Town Hall auditorium on Saturday afternoon in observance of the 46th National Cooperative Day- 2017.

Earlier, Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue) Abdul Mazid led a colourful rally in the city streets with participation of government officials and employees, leaders and activists of different cooperative organisations, civil society members and elite.

With Joint Registrar of Divisional Cooperatives Office Ajay Kumar Saha in the chair, the Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue) attended the discussion as chief guest.

Additional Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Police Bashir Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wahiduzzaman and General Secretary of district transport owners’ cooperative association AKM Azizul Islam Raju addressed as special guests.

In his welcome speech, Azizul Islam Raju discussed about the successes achieved so far through cooperative activities, increase productivity and develop human resources during tenure of the present government.

Bashir Ahmed laid importance on ensuring good governance in cooperative organisations to enhance productivity, achieve self-reliance through self- employments, small-scale enterprises, handicrafts and cottage industries for cutting rural poverty.

The Deputy Commissioner stressed on ensuring proper management in disbursing cooperative loans and uniting the poor to enhance productivity for eradicating poverty on way to achieve the SDGs by 2030.

The chief guest hoped that strengthening of the cooperative movement would definitely enhance productivity in all rural sectors to build a middle income nation by 2021 and achieve the SDGs on way to build a developed Bangladesh by 2041.
