Seminar on ‘River and Life’ at IU

ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY, August 04, 2018 (BSS)- A daylong seminar titled “River and Life: Protection Strategies and Our Commitment” was held at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia today.

Riverine People-Islamic University and National River Protection Commission (NRPC) jointly organised the event at Birshrestha Hamidur Rahman central auditorium of the university.

Chairman of National River Protection Commission Dr Mujibur Rahman Howlader addressed the seminar as the chief guest while full time member of NRPC M Alauddin, IU Treasurer Professor Dr M Selim Toha, Kushtia municipality mayor M Anowar Ali, Jhenidah municipality mayor M Saidul Karim Mintu were present here as the special guests with IU Pro-VC Professor Dr M Shahinoor Rahman in the chair.

Proctor of the university Professor Dr M Mahbubar Rahman, IU Riverine People convener Professor Dr M Rabiul Hossain, secretary M Altaf Hossain, among others, spoke.

In the seminar, Mujibur Rahman said the relation between river and life is inextricably linked. But the river’s navigability is gradually decreasing, a threat to life, he added.

“We have to move forward to bring the navigability of the river back”, he added.

More than 5 hundred teachers, students and officials of the university took part at the programme conducted by assistant Professor of IU’s Bangla department Rawshan Ara Setu.
