Met office predicts rain across country until early tomorrow

DHAKA, Aug 4, 2018 (BSS) – Bangladesh Meteorological Department (MBD) today
predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary
gusty wind at many places throughout the country in next 24 hours as of 9 am
tomorrow.

“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty
wind is likely to occur at many places in Chattogram, Barishal and Sylhet
divisions and at a few places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and
Khulna divisions with moderately heavy falls at places across the country in
the next 24 hours commencing at 9 am today,” said a BMD press release here.

Day and night temperature may rise slightly over the country during the
period, the release added.

According to the release, the axis of monsoon trough runs through Punjab,
Hariyana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and thence northeastwards to
Assam across northern part of Bangladesh. One of its associated troughs
extends up to North Bay. Monsoon is less active over Bangladesh and moderate
over North Bay.

The maximum temperature was recorded 33.5 degrees Celsius yesterday in
Rajshahi while today’s minimum temperature 24.0 degrees Celsius at Teknaf in
Chattogram division.

The highest rainfall in the last 24 hours as of 6 am today was recorded 40
mm at Mongla in Khulna division.

The sun sets at 6:40 pm today and rises at 5:29 am tomorrow in the capital.
