3,600-MW LNG based power plant at Payra

DHAKA, Nov 04, 2017 (BSS) – The government has undertaken another milestone project to set up a 3,600 megawatt (MW) power plant based on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) at Payra in Patuakhali district.

North-West Power Generation Company Limited (NWPGCL) and Germany based Siemens AG is signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for installing the power plant tomorrow.

Prime Minister’s Energy Advisor Dr Towfiq-E-Elahi Chowdhury, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, Chief Coordinator (SDG) of the Prime Minister’s Office Md Abul Kalam Azad and Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Dr Thomas Prinz will witness the MoU signing ceremony at Bidyut Bhaban in the capital city.

“The NWPGCL and the Siemens AG will jointly finance the project,” Director for Public Relation Department of Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) Chowdhury Saiful Hasan told BSS.

According to the project details, the two companies will build the 3,600-MW power plant having three units with electricity generation capacity of 1,200-MW each. The companies will also construct the LNG terminal there for ensuring availability of necessary natural gas to generate electricity.
