Three neo-JMB operatives arrested from Patgram

RANGPUR, Aug 03, 2018 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 arrested
three active operatives of banned militant outfit Neo Jama’atul Mujahedeen
Bangladesh (neo-JMB) with firearms, ammunition and ‘jihadi’ books from
Patgram municipality town of Lalmonirhat in the early hours today.

Commanding Officer of Rangpur RAB-13 Battalion Md Mozammel Haque
disclosed the information in a press briefing at the battalion headquarters
in Alamnagar area of Rangpur city this afternoon.

“Acting on a tip off, a special operational unit of the Militancy
Prevention Cell of RAB-13 from its headquarters conducted a sudden raid at
‘Diana Fashion Tailors’ located on AM Plaza Market in Patgram municipality
town and arrested the militants,” he said.

The arrested militants are neo-JMB’s Lalmonirhat District Ameer Fazle
Rabbi alias Robbu, 25, of village Tekurtari of Patgram upazila, its ‘Gayere
Ehsar’ members Shahin Islam, 35, of Patgram municipality and Hasan Masud, 27,
of village Dakshin Mosrat Modati under Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat
district.

“The elite force seized two foreign-origin pistols with two magazines
and five rounds of bullets, a locally-made one shooter gun with a live
bullet, ‘jihadi’ books and leaflets, electronic devices used for militant
activities,” he said.

During primary interrogation, the arrested neo-JMB members admitted that
they had been remaining in hideouts for past 3-4 years and conducting
organisational activities and planning to conduct subversive activities.

“The arrested neo-JMB members had plans to conduct various types of
subversive activities at different places of greater Rangpur region,”
Mozammel Haque said, adding that investigations were on to nab other members
of the organisation.

After filing two separate cases under the Arms Act and Anti-terrorism
Act in these connections against the arrested neo-JMB militants, the elite
force handed them over to Patgram Thana police later today, Haque added.
