Former whip Suja remembered

KHULNA, Aug 03, 2018 (BSS) – Prime Minister’s Economic Advisor Dr Moshiur Rahman today paid rich tributes to former whip Mostofa Rashidi Suja and said he (Suja) had worked throughout his life for establishing secular and democratic Bangladesh.

Suja was a veteran parliamentarian and worked for continuity of democracy in the country, Rahman said while speaking at a memorial meeting on the former whip as chief guest.

Khulna City and District units Awami League (AL) organised the meeting in the city’s Shaheed Hadis Park to commemorate Awami League leader Suja, who died on July 27, in a Singapore hospital.

Rahman expressed his optimism that the Awami League would become victorious in the next general election and the party already started taking preparations to this end.

Chaired by Khulna District Unit AL president and chairman of Khulna Zila Parishad Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid, the function was addressed, among others, by Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Naryan Chandra Chanda, newly elected mayor of Khulna Talukder Abdul Khaleque, members of parliament Mizanur Rahman Mizan, Panchanan Biswas, Nurul Haque, Md Shaowkat Ali Badsha and Monirul Islam and AL central leader S M Kamal Hossain.

Naryan Chandra Chanda said that Suja was an ideal politician and worked for maintaining democratic rule in Bangladesh.

Talukder Abdul Khaleque said Suja always fought against religious extremism and advocated for a secular country.

Other speakers lauded Suja’s contribution to strengthen AL in Khulna region.
