DU’s MCJ dept celebrates founding anniversary

DHAKA, Aug 2, 2018 (BSS) – The Department of Mass Communication and
Journalism (MCJ) of Dhaka University (DU) today celebrated its 56th founding
anniversary amid festivity and fanfare.

With the theme, “Mass Media, Mass People and Democracy”, the event began
with a colourful procession which was brought out from the base of Aparajeya
Bangla premises in the morning.

A seminar was held at the Muzaffaor Ahmed Chowdhury auditorium of the
university where Professor Emeritus Dr A F Serajul Islam Chowdhury presented
a keynote paper titled ‘Mass Media, Social System and Liberty of Mass
People’.

DU Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr. Md Akhtaruzzaman addressed the function
as chief guest while department chairperson Prof Kaberi Gayen presided over
the function.

In his speech, Prof Serajul said mass media is largely influenced by
advertisements as most newspapers are bound to publish advertisement contents
to flourish their businesses.

While addressing the programme, VC Prof Akhtaruzzaman said objectivity is
the key to journalism and without this journalism is impossible.

Later, two websites- www.mcjedu.com an informative site of the department
and www.dumcjnews.com a practical news portal, were inaugurated at the
function.
